Hikes

Pack 559 is committed to giving their scouts monthly opportunities to experience adventure and the outdoors. From August to May there is a monthly hike, led by parent volunteers. Each hike needs 2 volunteers one for Hike Leader and the other for Asst. Hike Leader.

Scouts completing six hikes during the Scouting year are eligible to earn a hiking stick at Crossover.

Considerations for choosing a new hike

  • Distance - A hike should be 3-4 miles round trip and is fairly easy to moderate

  • Location - Trailhead should not be more than 60 minutes from Sandburg Elementary, even less is better

  • Keep it fun - Plan for something unique along the trail (i.e. waterfall, old ruin, scenic overlook, etc..)

  • Dates - Most hikes are scheduled the 3rd weekend each month, Sunday hikes start later due to church, winter hikes also start later, make sure the hike does not conflict with other scouting events
